No Parking in Trees

Looking at a sheet of Valentine's-themed stickers, all pink and full of hearts and including a "Be Mine" in a scripty font, Flash says: That sign say no parking in trees.

Love the imagination!

Me: Look at that huge cloud up there!

Flash: I hope I can go up there in a rocket with you and Daddy and see it.

I have noticed him using the word "hope" a lot lately... usually for impossible things I might use the word "wish" for instead. It's so cute.

Birdies need some space

Flash has an ongoing game of pretend that his feet are birds. The birdies love to fly around, and to drink mama's milk. Whenever I try and stop the birdies from doing anything they shouldn't be doing (often kicking things), I am told, "Mama, birdies need some space!"

Daynja - wus

Flash's newest word is dangerous. (Well, it sounds more like "daynja-wus.") He says it most often in reference to climbing on top of things he knows he's not supposed to climb on, standing on chairs, etc. But this morning as we were leaving the house in a heavy rain, he pointed to the water running off the roof and said "dangerous!" I told him it wasn't dangerous and let him put his hand under the water.

Camping

We took Flash for his first overnight camping trip last weekend. He had such a great time. I hope it will be the first of many such excursions. When he first saw the river, he exclaimed, "Ocean!" We saw a huge wild owl sitting in a tree near our campsite, not to mention lots of caterpillars and bugs and plants. Sure, it was only car camping, but I think it's a great start to Xander's camping career. Right as he was about to fall asleep in the tent, his last words were, "All done park. Time go now." He was wishing for his bed at home. But he ended up sleeping just fine, and talked about the camping trip all the next few days at daycare. Hooray!

Rocks in his Pockets

The number one quality Flash looks for in an ensemble these days? Pockets. As many pockets as possible to be filled with rocks. It makes me happy to be finding rocks everywhere: in my own pockets upon arriving at work, falling out of the pockets of discarded clothing around the house, etc.

I think it's very sweet.

First complete sentence!

(By which I mean, the first one I heard, that wasn't a command such as "Mama, come," or "Sit here.")

This morning Flash said, "Mama, I hear train outside." I have heard him say, "train outside," many times before, but this goes beyond with a noun and a verb. Way to say it, little man!
