Diaper Cover (& Uncover)

Xander has been really enjoying games where his face gets covered. In this case, the cover is a (clean) cloth diaper.

Deciduous Christmas Tree

Xander sez: "Thanks, Auntie Beth, for giving me this stuffed deciduous tree for Christmas. Now I can do my tree-hugging in bed."

Auntie Suzi

Suzi is one of Xander's fabulous adopted aunties. We're so lucky to have her in our lives.

Sitting up for real!

Last Saturday Xander sat up for real. He still needs some practice to become a pro at it, but he's got the basics down. Way to go, Xander!

He also started laughing last weekend. What a delight.

Adventures in Elimination Communication

Xander is three and a half months old now, and we just got a potty last weekend

It’s so cute, he’s really too small for it. His little legs don’t even reach the ground. But he seems to really like it.

We have used it at least once a day all week, and I think we caught almost every poop all weekend (except one or two between 4 and 6 am, when everybody was too sleepy to try).

He seemed to get it right away and pretty much always goes immediately when we put him on there. Sometimes when I’m feeding him, he fusses and whimpers and then when we put him on the potty he goes right away. I don’t know if he wants to be put on the potty or is asking for it with his crying… but I wonder.

The pee doesn’t seem to bother him as much. He doesn’t mind peeing in a diaper and I guess if he doesn’t mind, I don’t mind changing it. That’s easier than emptying the potty and cleaning it out each time anyway. So to sum up: our family has decided (with Xander’s opinion getting the most weight) just to use EC on weekends and first thing in the morning, and not to worry about pee.

I am so excited that it’s going so well. Our daycare provider is excited too; she says if this keeps up she’ll get a potty for him to use there too.

Bath Time III (now with sound!)

With so many baby bath videos on our blog, you may be asking yourself if this site is turning into a full-time baby bath cam. But we just couldn't resist.

Bath Time II (silent video)

Bath Time II (three weeks later) from Team Maybela on Vimeo.

Just three short weeks later, and look at him now! Xander loves his bath time. He positively bounces through the whole thing. And he's holding his head up like a real champ.

Final Post-Partum Visit with Trillium Midwifery

We have been so overjoyed by our homebirth experience with Clare and Emmy--not to mention Gail (who stepped in at the last minute when baby decided to come while Emmy was on vacation)!

... Almost overjoyed enough to have more kids just so we could work with them again... but not quite enough.

Now presenting, outside the womb ...

Baby Maybela! Note his bloody fingernail: we're not going to try those tricky baby fingernail clippers again for a good long while.
