Adventures in Elimination Communication

Xander is three and a half months old now, and we just got a potty last weekend

It’s so cute, he’s really too small for it. His little legs don’t even reach the ground. But he seems to really like it.

We have used it at least once a day all week, and I think we caught almost every poop all weekend (except one or two between 4 and 6 am, when everybody was too sleepy to try).

He seemed to get it right away and pretty much always goes immediately when we put him on there. Sometimes when I’m feeding him, he fusses and whimpers and then when we put him on the potty he goes right away. I don’t know if he wants to be put on the potty or is asking for it with his crying… but I wonder.

The pee doesn’t seem to bother him as much. He doesn’t mind peeing in a diaper and I guess if he doesn’t mind, I don’t mind changing it. That’s easier than emptying the potty and cleaning it out each time anyway. So to sum up: our family has decided (with Xander’s opinion getting the most weight) just to use EC on weekends and first thing in the morning, and not to worry about pee.

I am so excited that it’s going so well. Our daycare provider is excited too; she says if this keeps up she’ll get a potty for him to use there too.
